Why I Love Volunteering With Circle of Friends

Written by Nicole Thomas

I started volunteering with Circle of Friends in January and really enjoy it.  I volunteer by doing communications-related work.

I graduated from Piedmont College in July 2020 with my undergraduate in mass communications.  I’m really grateful I get to apply the skills I learned at Piedmont when I volunteer with Circle of Friends.  It’s a great way for me to get more communication experience, and it’s rewarding to get to help those in need.

Some of the things I’ve done for Circle of Friends is help create business cards and flyers, create an Instagram account for Circle of Friends and their coffee shop and made a video interviewing adults who are receiving assistance from Circle of Friends.  In the video, they explained how Circle of Friends helped them.  I really enjoyed interviewing the adults who are receiving assistance.  I could tell how excited they are about getting to work at Circle of Friends Coffee Shop and about all the opportunities Circle of Friends offers.  It was clear that they wanted to work hard, and they are really deserving.

Circle of Friends has a variety of ways you can volunteer.  Their volunteer opportunities include fundraising, grant writing, supportive employment, social events, social media, communications, administrative, community research and design, volunteer coordination, media and press releases, videography and photography and graphic design.  If that sounds like something you would enjoy, I encourage you to volunteer.  You’ll have fun while making a difference in the lives of those who have intellectual and developmental disabilities.

If you would like to volunteer, you can sign up here, or if you would like to donate, you can donate by going to Network for Good page.
